DALLAS, Jan. 4 /-FirstCall/ -- Southwest Airlines Co.
(NYSE: LUV) announced today that the Company flew 5.0 billion revenue
passenger miles (RPMs) in December 2005, compared to the 4.3 billion RPMs
flown in December 2004. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 7.0 percent to
7.4 billion from the December 2004 level of 6.9 billion. The load factor for
the month was 67.6 percent, compared to 62.9 percent for the same period last
year.
For the fourth quarter 2005, Southwest flew 15.1 billion RPMs, compared to
the 13.1 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2004, an increase of
15.3 percent. Available seat miles increased 7.6 percent to 21.7 billion from
the fourth quarter 2004 level of 20.2 billion. The fourth quarter 2005 load
factor was 69.6 percent, compared to 65.0 percent for the same period last
year.
For the year ended December 31, 2005, Southwest flew 60.2 billion RPMs,
compared to the 53.4 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2004, an
increase of 12.7 percent. Available seat miles increased 10.8 percent to 85.2
billion from the 2004 level of 76.9 billion. The year-to-date load factor was
70.7 percent, compared to 69.5 percent for the same period last year.
