A Global Hub for Cybersecurity Threat Analysis and Thought Leadership CHICAGO, Nov. 3 // -- In a ceremony held at the Israeli consulate in Chicago today, the Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, announced the opening of the Center for Continual Vigilance (CCV), a cybersecurity initiative supported by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunitys Homeland Security Market Development (HSMD) bureau and Vigilon, Inc., a security software company headquartered in McLean, Virginia. "We are proud to have attracted such an internationally successful company to our state as a direct result of the homeland security trade mission to Israel," said Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich. "This is the beginning of a productive partnership with Vigilon that will pay important economic dividends for years to come. The message is clear- well never stop investing in companies that invest in Illinois." CCV grew out of a state-led trade mission to Israel in June of 2006, designed to strengthen business and technical ties between Israel and the State of Illinois. CCV will begin operations in late November at 212 W. Superior St., Chicago, IL. A key initiative of the center will be a program that offers area college students the opportunity to gain cybersecurity skills and work experience by contributing to the development of Themis, an open source network security scanner. Themis is distributed free under licensing terms that enable developers around the world to contribute enhancements to collectively improve functionality. Themis is available for download at http://www.themis.org. "Because of Illinois known leadership in homeland security product development, education and training, Chicago is the ideal place for CCV to bring together internationally-renowned experts in security from business, government and the academic community to create a global knowledge hub for computer security threat analysis," said Alon Moritz, Chairman and Founder of Vigilon. "We are grateful to Gov. Blagojevich for creating such a strong environment of support and collaboration for homeland security businesses and want to thank him for making it possible for Vigilon to play a part in the advancement of this burgeoning industry." "The State of Illinois has always been a leader in Homeland Security innovation," says Samantha Heath, Director of the Center for Continual Vigilance. "CCVs mission reflects that continuing commitment to addressing todays toughest security challenges. The Center also represents a great opportunity for students to develop critical skills in the cybersecurity arena-skills that will have a positive impact on local job creation." CCV will further Illinois leadership role in homeland security by partnering with local academic institutions, including the Homeland Security Innovation and Entrepreneurial Center at Northwestern University, the University of Illinois Information Trust Institute, Harper College and the Center for System Security and Information Assurance. Participants in the Center will work together to collaborate and identify new and ongoing threats to computer systems in order to advance the development of open source cybersecurity software and technology. Innovation fostered through the Center will result in an improved ability to for identifying cyber security vulnerabilities so that all organizations can better protect data, personal information and communication networks from cyber attacks. The opening ceremony was attended by Consul General of Israel Barukh Binah; Illinois State Senator Jeff Schoenberg (D-Evanston); Noa Asher, Consul for Economic Affairs for the Midwest Region, Israel Trade and Investment Center; Matthew Summy, Director of Program Development for the Office of the Governor, State of Illinois; Randall Martin, Product Manager, Motorola Global Security Services; and Robbie Higgins, Managing Director, Motorola Wireless Security Services. "No organization can stand alone in confronting the evolving security threats that plague todays communications networks," said Motorolas Robbie Higgins. "The Center for Continual Vigilance is an innovative example of how leaders from government, business and universities can work together to build real-world solutions and facilitate thought leadership in the fight against cyber attacks."
